TEAM STORIES

Meet Kate Vallianos
Kate earned her BA in English Literature and Education at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, where she also completed her student teaching and earned her teaching credential. Last year, she worked one-on-one with a high-functioning seventh grader diagnosed with autism. She now teaches 8th grade history, language arts, and math at a public charter school in Oakland, CA. Her experience with young teens has been enriched through work at summer camps and as a teacher in summer school programs.

A former Landmark volunteer herself, Kate spent two weeks at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies in Aspen, Colorado in 2000. She plays softball and ultimate Frisbee, plays the guitar and the piano, and is interested in environmental issues. She loves the outdoors and is currently training for a half-marathon. This past summer, she led her first team of Landmark volunteers at Blue Hill Heritage Trust/ Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Maine.
