Meet Annie Latta
Annie earned her BA in History from Indiana University and was awarded her Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation in August of this year. She was previously employed as a graduate student intern at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Division of Environmental Analysis, where she assisted staff with cultural historic survey reviews and resource assessments, making sure projects are in compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act. Prior to this, she was a research assistant for the University of Kentucky’s Center for Historic Architecture and Preservation, and assisted with the restoration of the historic Yosemite Valley Railroad caboose among other renovation projects.
Another of Annie’s jobs was as Forestry Technician for the US Forest Service. She repaired cabins, restored and maintained hiking trails, and constructed concrete fish passes, all in the wet and cold of the Tongass National Forest and Misty Fiords National Monument in Alaska. Her job-related training is remarkable and her certifications impressive--Annie is certified in chainsaw operation, boating safety, aviation safety, sea kayak safety and, just in case, bear safety. She is adept with all sorts of hand tools, power tools, and the computer.
An avid outdoorswoman, Annie has backpacked, hiked, and kayaked through the wilderness in America and the Canadian West. She is affiliated with the Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the National Parks Conservation Association. This past summer, she led her first team of Landmark volunteers at Camp Santanoni in New York.
