What's right for me?
When you volunteer with Landmark, you will have a distinctly "Landmark experience" - an experience that extends through all of our programs regardless of the site or type of work involved. The Landmark experience is one of fun, hard work, cooperation and a shared sense of purpose. It is one that has been successful for sixteen years: well organized by a fulltime Landmark staff and expertly led in the field by dynamic team leaders. No matter where you serve as a Landmark volunteer, the experience is one of both giving and growth. Depending on your interests, it is important to think about which programs might be right for you. When applying to Landmark, you will be required to list six programs in order of preference. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferences, but try to be open to serving where you are most needed. In thinking about where you might be going, you can consider:

  • Your interests —
Do you like classical music or Native American culture?
Do you enjoy helping others in a social service capacity?
    Are you a history buff?
Have you dreamed of spending time in a national park?

  • Type of work —
Are you good with your hands?
Do you like to build things?
Do you like to work with nature or animals?
Do you prefer to work with people - assisting with activities for disadvantaged children or people with disabilities?

  • Type of accommodations —
Does the idea of sleeping in a tent in the wildness excite you?
Or do you prefer indoor lodging?

  • Geographic location —Landmark offers opportunities across the country.
    Do you want to travel?
    Stay close to home?
Travel arrangements and expenses are the responsibility of volunteers.

  • Your availability — Landmark offers many different dates throughout the spring and summer. Summer programs are generally two weeks and spring programs are one week. They generally start on a Sunday afternoon and end on a Saturday morning.
